Sergio Miguel
Full CV (PDF)
Sergio Miguel's work draws on baroque and colonial visual traditions to examine power, ritual, and desire. Through symbolic figuration and carefully staged tableaux, his paintings transfigure historical iconography within a contemporary, transnational context, where bodies are unsettled, distorted, and held in tension between devotion and rupture.
Miguel received his B.A. in Art History in 2014 and his M.F.A. in Studio Art from Columbia University in 2021. Solo exhibitions include Balada de la Inquisición at Company Gallery (2024) and Army of Angels at Deli Gallery (2022). Selected group exhibitions include soul breaker at Company Gallery, New York (2026); Spectre at Newchild Gallery, Antwerp (2025); Lover’s Eye at Sargent’s Daughters, Los Angeles, CA (2023); Discreet Histories at Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles, CA (2023); Saints and Sinners at Guts Gallery, London, United Kingdom (2023); On Genres at Winter Street Gallery, Martha’s Vineyard, MA (2023); The Fool at The 8th House Projects, Mexico City, Mexico (2022); and De Por Vida at Company Gallery, New York, NY (2021). Sergio Miguel lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
